bosch ids 20 heat pump install how hacky is this really

I had a family acquaintance that works for a HVAC company by day and does stuff on the side set this up. It's a brand new Bosch IDS 2.0 4 ton whole home heat pump with matching air handler.

I don't feel like it's been performing very well at all when the temp gets anywhere below 35 or so.

Thermostat is set to 67, air coming out of the vents seems to be around 88-90.

Paid an actual HVAC company to come out and look at the setup as a second opinion. They quoted me over 5k to basically reconfigure the air handler. They said the handler should be up off the ground, with the return coming through the bottom..and the hydronic coil should be up top on the supply side.

I'm all for having this set up correctly, because I paid too much for this new equipment for it not to work optimally.but 5k seems steep and I curious how big of an effect making those changes will actually have on the performance?

Thanks for any help in advance. I'm located in southern Maine if that makes a difference for anyone.

Answer:

The hydronic coil must be downstream of the evap coil, otherwise when there is a call for supplemental heat, return air hitting coil is already warm, kills heatpump capacity when that happens and drive head pressure up.

Your issues may be caused by low airflow, wrong dip switch settings, refrigerant charge being off.
