different types of air conditioners

Choosing a new air conditioning system for your home may seem like a stressful and confusing task. With all the different types of units on the market, it may seem almost impossible to decide which one is perfect for your home. Today we’ll be going over some different kinds of air conditioners to help you narrow down your options.

Central Air Conditioner
This is the most common type of air conditioner as it is the most preferable to cool larger homes efficiently. These units circulate cool air through supply and return ducts. Central ACs are capable of cooling multiple rooms at once, using less electricity than multiple stand-alone units. They are also effective in reducing humidity levels throughout your home, improving air quality and deterring the growth of mold.

Window Air Conditioner
This type of air conditioner is a compact unit, able to cool only one particular room. These systems are installed in windows, emitting the warm air out and blowing cool air in. Although they can’t cool your entire house, these units are compact, convenient, and easy to install. They can readily fit into any window and are light enough that you can install them on your own. They act as great air purifiers, and can easily be moved from room to room.

Ductless, Mini-Spit Air Conditioner
Ductless, mini-split units are most common in parts of the home that have been retrofitted. These systems have an outdoor compressor just like central air conditioners. You probably want to go with these units if you’re looking to cool individual rooms in your home. Compared with other add-on systems, mini splits offer much more flexibility in interior design options. Since they have no ducts, they don’t have the energy losses of other AC variants.
